Spring Valley Park is a large park located within the Pascack Brook floodplain. Home to a small community center and a handful of sports fields, the park mostly serves as a passive outdoor space. However, Spring Valley Placemakers, in partnership with Sustainable Hudson Valley, envision the park as a future resiliency incubator for piloting, organizing, and planning community resource programs. Assemblage provided design services to bring this vision to life.

In order to serve as a incubator hub, the idea of resiliency needed to expand to include the ecological improvements, social programs, and economic uplift opportunities that could be hosted in the park. Early in the design process, Spring Valley Placemakers provided invaluable local knowledge of existing programs and opportunities that could utilize the park as a homebase. These conversations guided the design to include a wide range of amenities and improvements to the site. This masterplan is the first step to implementing future projects that will help create a more resilient Spring Valley.

First we developed a vision plan that maps activation opportunities throughout the park - aligning programming and placemaking elements with nodes, circulation routes, and natural features.

Next we refined the preliminary concept to develop site-specific solutions that respond to existing conditions and stakeholder input, while incorporating best practices in sustainability and long-term performance.

The final design provides inclusive, welcoming spaces for people of all ages to explore, engage, & connect with natural systems. Park programming fosters interaction - empowering individuals to build a vibrant, connected community.
