MAMARONECK GREENWAY

Connecting communities, designing with water, and restoring habitat along the Sheldrake River

The Village of Mamaroneck Greenway has been in the making since 2023. A completed Greenway will provide 3 miles of pedestrian connectivity and over 20 acres of new green space on public land throughout the Village to address issues like flooding, water quality, and loss of riparian habitat along the Sheldrake and Mamaroneck Rivers. Improvements will also activate local pedestrian corridors and provide public green space to many communities currently lacking greenspace.

The Sheldrake and Mamaroneck Rivers have been intensely modified due to historic development and lack of stewardship. The once natural stream systems are now channelized, removed from the public’s eye, and prone to intense flooding issues. The Greenway is an opportunity to merge the Village’s goals of improving stormwater management, creating retention spaces for floodwater, restoring the health of the rivers, and improving pedestrian recreation.
