Greenway Corridors

Greenways often seem to pop up in recycled spaces along urban waterways, retired industrial corridors, and in the in-between spaces of towns and cities. But these humble trails are much more than simple paths around town… they take copious amounts of planning and coordination. By transforming these areas, we reclaim space for transportation, recreation, ecological life, health and wellness.

Greenways activate more pedestrian and bike friendly transportation. These trails are safe alternative routes to vehicular travel, and they help lower our collective carbon footprint.

While people benefit from greenways, so does the surrounding ecosystem! Greenways are a fantastic way to improve the quantity and quality of green space by contributing crucial wildlife habitat and pollinator patches.

Connecting communities is another benefit of greenways. Providing a physical link between neighborhoods or cities supports miles of recreational space for people to explore, enjoy, and build community beyond familiar boundaries.

Access to greenways greatly improves the health and happiness of communities. Greenways create cooling continuums that we all benefit from in the hot days of summer, and the trees help clean our air and drawdown carbon.

We are excited to see so many municipalities planning and implementing local greenways, this is a great step towards more access to nature for everyone.
